On September 9 our members shared the beautiful projects they completed over the summer.
Deflected Doubleweave Workshop and Presentation
Natalie Drummond shared her approach to creating colorful deflected doubleweave designs. On the two days before the meeting, Natalie. held a workshop for nine DWG members to learn her approaches. The participants each identified their favorite design as the starting point for a complete project.

Throw in the Towel: Information & Inspiration from Gail Pilgrim
Kitchen Towels are the workhorses of the weaving world. They fulfill a practical functional role, but also make happily received gifts and highly successful sale items. But why weave towels when big box stores can sell them in great quantity at a fraction of the cost of materials, not to mention our time? Simple! These functional items can be items of beauty and creativity, a joy to weave. Gail Pilgrim provided tips on how to make towels we will proudly give, use, sell, display and exchange. Her presentation included lots of “eye candy,” many resource suggestions and ideas for a guild towel exchange.
“Weavers’ Poker” Challenge
In September, those wishing to participate in the annual Challenge received five randomly selected “cards.” The “suit” of the card is an attribute of the project (e.g. draft, color, fiber). Each card contained a specification for that attribute. Each participant may eliminate one card. The resulting set of cards specifies the challenge. At the February 10 meeting, the participants presented their creative and beautiful responses to the challenge.

Tactile Art: Collapse Fabrics
Denise Kovnat returned with a fascinating presentation on the many techniques and possibilities for creating dimensional fabrics. The three basic elements for these fabrics are structure, active and inactive yarns, and finishing techniques. The results make the most of an often-overlooked aspect of weaving: that of texture and depth. By adding color and form, weavers can maximize the potential of our craft to create imaginative fabrics with great visual and tactile appeal.
Inkle Band Weaving
Annie MacHale (ASpinnerWeaver http://aspinnerweaver.blogspot.com) gave a fascinating presentation on Inkle Band Weaving. She slides overflowed with a diverse collection of examples of inkle woven bands and many ideas of how to use those bands.
