- January’s meeting featured a presentation by Ann Kolleger, Executive Director of the Hartford Artisans Weaving Center. This center is a supportive and creative community that preserves, promotes, and teaches the craft of hand-weaving. They teach classes for all ages and run a unique artisan program that teaches weaving to people who are blind, visually-impaired, and anyone 55 and older.
- February was the annual presentation of the Weavers’ Poker Challenge. Four members presented their beautiful responses to the set of “cards” they were “dealt” in September. Each challenge consisted of five “cards” each randomly selected from a different “suit.” The suits represented attributes of a project (e.g. draft, color, fiber). Each participant could eliminate one card and then create a weaving incorporating the other remaining cards. The results are featured in the February 2025 Member’s Work.
- March 8: Our own Margaret Jones gave a retrospective of Almost 50 Years of Weaving.
- April 12: My Artist Journey by weaver Bonnie Zimmer. Bonnie share her evolution as a fiber artist. Retired after teaching art at all levels for over 40 years, Bonnie is now a full time artist living near Rensselaer, IN. giving occasional guest artist presentations and workshops. Grounded by her BFA in textiles from Indiana University (1973), she uses fiber techniques and natural and found materials to create vessels, sculptures, and installations that explore our relationship with nature. Bonnie enjoys creating nature inspired jewelry and eco-printed clothing she sells at regional art fairs.
- April 12th Afternoon: Beaded Wrap Bracelet workshop, in which each participant completed a beautiful single wrap bracelet (goes around the wrist once). We came away with a detailed handout of information and skills to create multi-wrap, complex bracelets on our own.
